1. Reflective Writing from Session Four, March 13, 2010
This morning’s session with Ms. Courtney Bryant was very enlightening to me for two
reasons. Primarily, was the work she is doing with her students at South Atlanta H.S. in
animation strikes me as being a very innovative approach to shaping curriculum to
interface with “real world” possibilities as students ponder career options. Secondarily, I
recall her as a student at Grady H.S. during my tenure there; it is always gratifying to see
the career paths former students have taken in their adult lives!
Mrs. Natalie Colbert led a very compelling presentation on “Teachers As Artists!” The
video streams that she incorporated into our brainstorming session as it relates to our
original composition was thoughtfully interjected. I was particularly impressed by the
“collective buy-in” from all members of the group. I am looking forward to the sequential
development of our project from conception to concert presentation. Thank you Mrs.
Colbert!
Dr. Vanrensburg’s breakout was an enhanced overview of the processes and procedures
of our cohort experience. Thank you for yielding the time to reinforce the information
concerning our portfolios and time frames for the other elements of this professional
development experience. Our guest is also to b commended for providing us with such a
wonderful “informance” on the evolution of Black American Music. The delivery was
very enlightening and I strongly encourage our presenter to continue to pursue these
types of presentations; from a learners perspective, they are very engaging. Also, I
appreciated the parallels that were made to Pink’s book!
